Importance of Project Management In Construction

At Piling Victoria, we are well aware that the right team is essential to a build. A cohesive and professional team is needed to ensure a quality build that falls within budget. There is one key person in the group who is responsible for overseeing the entire job - the project manager.

A project manager is essential on job sites. Their role is to plan out the entire project to ensure that time-frames and budgets are met. They must carefully balance three different areas:

  • Quality
  • Time
  • Money.

Having the right project manager or project management team is key to the success of the project.

An experienced and professional project manager will keep your job on track, within budget and be able to foresee and anticipate project delays. They will have a workaround planned for any known possible delays.

The project manager must be skilled in many different areas. Generally, they hold the responsibility of maintaining the client/business relationship. They also are responsible for the day to day management and tasks such as ensuring the correct materials have arrived and the right trades are on site.

A construction team is managed by the project manager, meaning that they must also possess excellent interpersonal skills to be able to manage staff and tackle problems. Negotiation skills are also a must so they can resolve potential conflicts before they become significant delays.

The project manager must also report on progress to the company management and the client.

They must be aware of everything that is going on around them.

Without a project manager, a build would not be able to run smoothly. What’s that saying, the left-hand needs to know what the right hand is doing - and that is the role of the project manager.

When hiring a project manager, it is a good idea to hire someone with industry experience. It would help if you also looked for someone with a proven track record of financial management and time management.

Most importantly, the project manager should be a leader, someone who is not afraid to steer the ship.

Always check the track record of your project manager before hiring them. The project manager is one person on your team whom you want to be licensed, experienced, qualified and professional. This will ensure your construction projects are completed on time and within budget.
